The rising cost of energy prices have almost mandated that people look for alternatives to traditional energy providers and they are finding them in surprising places; themselves! Yes, solar energy for homes is available in and, much to the chagrin of your gas and electric company, surprisingly affordable and easy to install.

Some of the obvious benefits of a solar panel for home use are:

1.) Decrease your energy bills 50% or more
2.) Maintain at strategic home power during grid failures without the need for a generator
3.) It gives you a reason to pat yourself on the back as you are doing something good for mother earth

Even simple to install domestic solar energy systems can save significant money on your energy bills in a very short time frame. Information on solar panels is widely available on the internet, however, you must be diligent in your searches as there are also many kits and packages that are not all they are heralded to be.

I know that research on the internet can be very discouraging at times, however, perseverance pays in this instance and can pay big.

You can get started quickly in determining what you need in the following order: look at your energy use over the last 12 months, research the cost of panels to replace 10% of this, look at the battery system required (often very expensive as well, but there are some tricks to the trade here like using discarded golf cart batteries!), determine the best location for the panels and calculate the wiring requirements to / from the panels to the storage batteries and to tie into your power system. You will need to contact your power provider prior to purchasing your system to ensure that you fully understand the code requirements for the interface with them.
