The Advantages Of Solar Power Today

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

With the economic state spiraling down globally, we look for all of the advantages for saving dollars as we can find. Perhaps the greatest advantage of solar power is the saving of money on our electric bill. A collection of solar thermal collectors in the form of solar panels can save hundreds of dollars in the cost of electricity used to power our homes. These solar panels trap the rays of the sun and through a process of inverting and converting those rays, gets the electricity we need to generate power to our appliances and to heat and light our homes.

When Mother Nature gave us the knowledge to convert the rays of the sun into solar thermal energy, she gave us a free egress to electricity. Just think, never again to have to pay a high electric bill on a monthly basis. We can take advantage of the free rays of the sun to use in our homes and what we do not use we can store in a battery to be used on  days when the sun is hiding behind a cloud, or at night. We have already had a demonstration of what solar energy can do, when we use our calculators and our swimming pool. That calculator that turns off and on without the click of a button. When the sun rays heat the water in the swimming pool, you can use a solar cover on the pool to save the heat in the water.

Saving money is not the only advantage of using solar power. In saving energy we are also doing our part in saving the planet. Our thoughts today are not solely concentrated on the economy and saving money, although that is important. We are also concerned about saving the planet and we can do so by saving as much energy as we can. Using natural solar power instead of manufactured electricity generated by the electric company is a good beginning. When you’re lounging at the pool this summer, enjoying the warm water in the pool and enjoying your Suntan, think of what the rays of the sun can do for your home and your wallet.

Solar Power – Its easy to install in your home

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Solar power has been around for quite some time.  But only now is the technology growing by leaps and bounds.  The cost of a solar panel has dramatically been reduced over the past few years as countries with lower labor rates have gotten into the manufacturing of them.

The types of solar panels have also dramatically changed.  They have become much more efficient, therefore, needing less of a foot print to install.  There are even flexible solar panels available for areas where the footprint is not exactly flat.  These solar panels can be placed on a roof, on a hill in the back yard, or just about anywhere.

There are also solar panels available for RVs to recharge and supply their batteries, and for alternative uses where electric power is not immediately available.  Can you imagine if Gilligan and the crew had a solar panel arrangement available on that deserted island?

The transmission and battery systems have also expanded.  The solar power that is generated is inverted from DC (direct current) to AC (alternating current) which is used to power everything from lights to televisons.  The DC current is stored in the batteries for when the solar panels produce more electricity than what is being used.  If the batteries are filled to capacity, then the solar power can be funnelled into the electric grid, and you can actually see your meter run backwards.

Can you imagine that, your electric bill is reduced or even seeing a credit on your bill if you are pumping more electricity into the grid than using?  There are alot of critics out there saying that solar power is not an efficient form of alternative energy.  They site that solar power is not produced in the night time, and is reduced if its a cloudy day.  This is all true, however, with the battery arrangements, you can have power throughout the nighttime (when you are probably sleeping anyways), and there is always the electric grid if your batteries run out.

Solar power has no smog emissions which also helps the environment.  Who would ever complain about saving the environment, saving money on your electric bill and being a steward of forward thinking?  Yes, solar power systems are expensive in totality, but the government is subsidizing so that you can earn a tax credit back for installation.  The cost is not as much as you would think!  Its worth a look into.

Pros Of Solar Power Vs Pros Of Wind Power

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

When you talk about using solar or wind energy for power generation, you are looking at a number of advantages and quite a lot of things to gain from. On top of that, both solar and wind powers have some characteristic advantages to themselves. Let us look at what these renewable sources of energy have on offer for us and compare the pros of solar power with the pros of wind power.

The Common Advantages

First of all, both solar and wind energies have some common advantages. They are both renewable sources, and thus preserve the ecology of the Earth. Both solar and wind energies are non-polluting, helping us to keep this earth cleaner and healthier. Using solar and wind energy is totally free, and hence costs very little to run. Apart from the initial setup costs, these sources of power generate electricity that is almost free.

Running a solar power plant or a windmill to generate power doesn’t need any transportation as they are available to be used all around the world. These sources are very quiet and don’t not result in noise pollution. These were the pros of solar power and the pros of wind power combined.

Pros Of Solar Power

Solar power has some added advantages. Unlike windmills, solar power plants can be set up in comparatively smaller areas. You can install a solar power plant on your terrace or your backyard and enjoy the benefits of free electricity. Moreover, solar power plants are easier to set up compared to windmills. Another of the pros of solar power is that it doesn’t endanger birds or any other animals like the windmills do. The blades of the windmills pose a danger for the birds which maybe flying around in such an area.

Pros Of Wind Power

A windmill has a great advantage of being able to work all through the day and night, unlike a solar power plant which becomes useless with the sun gone. The windmills are very effective all around the world, wherever you find the wind blowing. Hence, unlike sunlight, windmills are able to operate in the polar region as well.

These were the various pros of solar power and wind power. Both sources are equally important to us, can help to substitute for a substantial portion of the traditional electricity being used by us at present. Go to http://www.squidoo.com/renewableenergyforhome for more information on solar power and wind power.

In case you didn’t notice, I’m a big fan of making my own renewable energy. I want to share my successes and failures and let people learn for my experiences.

Why use Solar Power?

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Why use solar power?

Why not use solar power? Since the beginning of time, the sun has provided the earth with energy. Why shouldn’t we use it? Solar energy is becoming more and more widely used as an alternative energy source. We need to stop depending on others for power, especially foreign oil and big utility corporations. Currently, there are many products on the market that run strickly on solar power. Why not your home?

I have done extensive research over the past couple years about solar energy. If done correctly, it can supply all the power you would need for your home. You can have a few solar panels for powering certain areas of your home, or many to power the whole home.

You don’t need to spend huge amounts of money buying pre-manufactured solar panels. You can build and install them yourself. There is a lot of good information on the internet and in your local library on how to do it yourself. If you go to my website http://www.powersolars.co.cc, you can buy most everything you need to go solar. My website has a video section consisting of information about solar power and how to convert to it. Building solar panels can be something the whole family can do. The whole family can learn about electric and how to save money.

In the near future, I will be offering ebooks with step by step instructions on building everything solar. You can find ebooks about solar energy on the internet, but most are costly. Keep checking my website for updates.

Good luck and go solar!

This article aims to do just that, inform you of the benefits you can gain from building a system to produce homemade energy and help you make an informed decision.

Solar Power is not the newest alternative energy solution on the block, but it is still one of the most viable forms of energy both in terms of cost and effectiveness.

The main benefits of a home solar power system include:

Save money:  solar energy is free energy, in the sense that once you have your system installed there are no further costs, use as much as you want when you want.
Go Green:  this form of power is extremely green friendly, meaning it doesn’t impact in a negative way on the environment. Solar energy is derived from energy harvested from the sun and as such is a renewable and non destructive form of energy which gives off no harmful environmental impacting side effects.
Go off grid: by using solar in your home you can reduce or totally avoid using energy drawn from the grid, this means you are not subjected to government regulations, taxes, tariffs’ or rationing. Another benefit of going “off grid” is you are no longer affected by power outages.

Building your own home solar power system yourself has the added benefit of being even more cost effective. Retail Solar installations can run into the many thousands of dollars. Do it yourself home solar power systems can be built for as little as a couple of hundred dollars.
